In this article, I’ll show you 3 ways to get your first copywriting job in 2021. I know how difficult it can be to get your first job, so I’ll make this as simple as possible and give you some tips along the way.
Also, if you read to the end of this blog, I’ll show you how to get a list of the 27 most profitable copywriting niches for freelance copywriters in 2021, completely free.
Ok, the first way to get freelance copywriting jobs is through Fiverr, and other freelance websites.
These websites are great because you can set up a profile and pretty much advertise your services for free to people that are looking for copywriters.
I’m going to make a video on how to set up a Fiverr profile that actually gets you gigs, so subscribe to my YouTube channel if you want to see that.
When you set up your fiverr profile, you need to look professional, and make sure you specialise in one specific area of copywriting.
So don’t just say you’re an email copywriter, this is too vague.
Say that you’re a direct response copywriter, specialising in email marketing for SaaS companies.
It’s not going to pay very well, but you will get invaluable experience in the game of copywriting.
Now, Fiverr isn’t the only freelance website out there, there’s also upwork, freelancer.com, and worksome.com
Now, the cons of Fiverr are;
Ok, so the next way you can get your first freelance copywriting gig, is by going direct to companies and pitching your services.
The easiest way to get started with this is by finding companies on Google Shopping. This is simply where you’ll search for products in your niche and contact the companies that are advertising them on Google Shopping.
The reason this is great is that you’ll find lots of professional companies that are actively promoting their products online, so they’ll understand the value of a good copywriter.
You also won’t have nearly as much competition as if you were to try to get clients on Fiverr, because you’re just emailing companies directly.
If you want to find the email address of a CEO for a particular company, I recommend using a tool like rocketreach.io, which allows you to find their email address instantly. Alternatively you can use hunter.io, or anymailfinder, and I’ll leave some links down below so you can get started with these tools.
Now, you’ll need to come up with a really good email if you want to get clients this way, because you need to grab someone's attention in their email inbox.
I actually have a starter pack with my 3 most successful cold email templates in the description, they’re called my winning emails and if you want to save £10, you can use the code SAVE10 at checkout.
Now there are downsides to this method.
But overall I prefer this way as you can get paid a lot more by the companies you’re targeting since there’s less competition.
Now, the third way to find your first job is by using Facebook.
This is a great way to find companies in your niche because you can literally just search for whatever type of company you want to go for and they’ll appear in a list on Facebook search.
You should also try to target companies who advertise on your newsfeed if they are in your niche.
This is a fantastic way to find companies because it’s more efficient than the Google Shopping and you have less competition than fiverr.
Once you find a company on facebook, don’t send them a direct message, send them a cold email as it’s more professional and you have more chance of getting the client.
The downside of this method is that you can run out of companies quite quickly as Facebook doesnt have the best search functions.
So, those are the best ways to get your first freelance copywriting job in 2021.
If you want to take things to the next level, I recommend checking out my course Copywriting Blueprint, as it goes way more in depth with the better client methods I use, and I’ll train you up to be a 6 figure copywriter as you go through the course.
But before I end the video I did promise I’d give you a list of the 27 most profitable copywriting niches in 2021, here’s a link to get those.
